Lesson 227:

This is my holy instant of release…

Ah yes, it is today, this moment, this instant… we are free.

It is this instant we realize the true peace, the peace never really missing, but ever-present, beyond and within… It is this peace that now remains in our awareness as we continue on the forgiveness path of God’s plan for salvation. This holy instant, itself is beyond time and reminds us that none of our dreams of pain were ever real. True being is experienced and the Now of Heaven. We are the One; sharing One Will, and it is all there is…

The prime hindrance, as I see it, to this experience of ones true being is our addiction to running our lives by or desire for pleasure and our fear of pain. This pleasure-pain dynamic is the primary motivation for the choices we have made in the past and now we are addicted to that formula as a means of choice making. That stands in the way of any genuine experience.

When we “choose once again” as the Course invites, we give our choice mechanism entirely over to the Holy Spirit for correction. It is here we find our release. In this holy instant of release we experience what could be described as freedom from all motivation; a state in which no desire could possibly arise. Bliss is a symbol one might use in attempting to describe this state, but it is merely our natural state of being...

It is an experience outside of time/space and there is not enough time in all the world to experience this release. No, this release comes on welcome, by our mere decision for it ~only…

And how this then plays out in our lives is that we begin to see the falseness of the pleasure/ pain dynamic; the ego’s prime drug of our previous choice, when we are no longer motivated by fear of pain or desire for pleasure because we are beginning to see they are one in the same, and equally false, and that they are only of the imagination. We are released from being led around by the nose, motivating our choices from this point of reference. We naturally open ourselves up to be inspired in our choices, instead…

This is my holy instant of release…

We leave alone our addiction to the bondage of our desires and fears, and give our entire attention to the Self behind the experiences we thought were who we were, and experience the eternal Self beyond.

We see that we are indeed free because we were mistaken, but that our illusions of mistaken identity did not affect our own reality at all.

“Today, we lay them down before the feet of truth, to be removed for ever from our mind”. As the lesson’s prayer says:

This is my holy instant of release…
